White Dwarf Issue #5 - March of the Knights!

You may remember in my last review of White Dwarf I had my concerns about the direction of this new version of White Dwarf. It seemed to be moving away from information and more about selling product.
Well this week I have to eat my words - this week Games Workshop have given us more background in one issue than I have seen for some time.
If you want to know about Imperial Knights, this is where!
Sure, it's a big ad, but there is information on heraldry, Houses, colour schemes and more.
Hold you breath - there is actual content.
Games Workshop have done well with this issue.
They touch on rules, even having a Knight vs Knight game, some lovely paint schemes and a look at the Imperial  Knights Companion book.

The first part of White Dwarf you come across is a large feature on next weeks Imperial Knights Codex. Not thrilling, but a good look into what you will get if you head into GW next week to pick it up.

This is followed by a look at the Imperial Knights Companion book. It looks great and I got to flick through the opne in store today - but for $120 AUS I'm not sure...
Tonnes of colour schemes, but mostly drawings which seem incredibly hard to replicate on a miniature.

The Houses and Heraldry section is interesting and gives a good overview of how you might fit your model into the world. This is basically more material from the Imperial Knights Companion book.

Now this is where things get interesting - the Freeblades section. I can see most painters going down this route as the schemes are amazing! Don't forget to read the side bars on these pages. Some great, inspiring information to get your imagination bubbling along.

This is where they let their artists go nuts and really come up with some interesting ideas. Again this is more material from the Imperial Knights Companion book, but just have a look at them!
Also notice the Knight with the LEDs in the eyes and Melta Cannon. This may the first Games Workshop model we have seen with LEDs in a White Dwarf. Many hobbyists do it - especailly if you paint Gundam - but as for GW, this may be a first.

Obligatory battle report... the information in the side bars is cool though.

Some nice little bits on painting, but nothing revolutionary - basically the same as last weeks.

Now this is a great little article - How to Apply Transfers. This has some basic but important information for beginners on the use of varnish and the like and also goes into how to weather transfers... carefully!

Finally we have some nice little articles in the back - PLUS a look at how one of the painters achieved a red version of a scheme that should be familiar to all Beardys - the mottled Titan scheme. This is the scheme pictured on the front cover too. It goes way back to Adeptus Titanicus and Epic Space Marine.

As far as background and something to inspire you to paint and model - this is the best White Dwarf so far. If you're going to buy an Imperial Knight today - pay the extra $6 and feel inspired!
