White Dwarf Issue #6 - It's Chaos Time!

Hello, it's a Saturday so it must be White Dwarf Day - this week Issue #6 "Brute Force".
In Warhammer 40K, the Space marijnes rule the roost as THE most popular force - they are iconic, highly customsiable, and they frankly kick arse!
Next on the list would have to be, or certainly close, the Chaos Space Marines - losers in the Horus Heresy, they fled to the Eye of Terror and there have been slowly warped by their Chaos masters.
Well this week sees the beginning of two weeks of Chaos Space Marine releases, which could have been really cool - but the feeling in the White Dwarf is a bit lacklustre!
Is it because the Chaos Space Marines aren't new?
Is it because the Hellbrute isn't that exciting?
Or maybe it's just the Imperial Knight issues (#4 and #5) were so damn good that this just feels a bit... meh.

I'll give this new White Dwarf format a bit of a pump here - they certainly jump straight into it!
What you want to see is at the front.
Now if this was radio they'd be getting it all wrong, but it's not - so kudos to you White Dwarf!

The Hellbrute is the main-main in this issue and they get us into him with a fairly detailed look at some of the miniature features and a bit of a write up. I tell you what - you'd better like your Chaos all flayed skin and oozing bits - because this miniature is all about the mutation!

The next feature is the Chaos Space Marine Attack Force which... isn't new and doesn't even include a Hellbrute! There you were saying this was just a catalogue for new stuff... oh this is a "new release"?!
Looks like they need to fill up a double page!

Brute Force and Paint Splatter of course concentrate on the Hellbrute and then how it would look in different Legion colours. The Thousand Son gun casing is beautifully done, but the rest is a bit washed out and ordinary. I would expect a Black Legion Hellbrute to look a bit more fearsome.

Sprues and Glue looks at constructing Chaos Space Marines - bit pedestrian - but the Using Liquid Green Stuff section is interesting. I've never found it too useful, so this should help a few people.

The Week in White Dwarf has an article about the 'eavy Metal painters approach to the Imperial Knights, bits on Chaos Renegade Marines and some other little stuff - BUT the best bit is actually the Hobby in the White Dwarf Bunker section which this week that has some really nice models, especially Andy Hoare's Inquisitorial retinue which includes a great Thallax conversion. This is a great little unit and the Inquisitor looks great! The highlight of the issue frankly!

But before you go...

Is this a preview of the new Chaos Raptor for next week? They're not the Forge World ones and not the current Raptors... They look smashing so who knows.

So, White Dwarf Issue #6 - the verdict?
Look it's pretty lacklustre, so if you're not into the Hellbrute then you can probably skip this issue.
Apart from the pretty pictures there are some interesting articles, but it's a quick reads I can tell you.

On a side note - I know I'm the last person to criticise - but quite a few of the pictures are just out of focus.
I use a crappy little pocket camera, I assume Games Workshop use a better camera than me, but the pictures really don't look very good at all.
The Imperial Knight pictures were great - really crisp and clean, but like the dwarf ones from issues #1 - #3, these are out of focus and the colours don't look right.
They really need to look at this as it's inconsistent and not attractive.
